Waterworld

I just watched "Waterworld" the motion picture.  I have been wanting to see it ever since we saw the Waterworld stunt show at Universal Studios.  It wasn't great.  There were some parts I enjoyed though.  The villain was pretty good and memorable, and I enjoyed all the mid 90's references (intentional and unintentional).  For example, the villain keeps praising St. Joe, a reference to Joseph Jeffrey Hazelwood who was the captain of the Exxon Valdez oil tanker (had to look that one up).  Other 90's era stuff I saw were those short baseball caps, almost like a biker's hat.  There was also this bungee jump thing where the main hero jumps off of a hot air balloon with a rope around his ankle.  Very 90's.  That and the fact the movie stars Kevin Costner.

The only thing that really bugged me about the movie was it seemed like the music was blatant... you know the type.  It gets all triumphant when the hero is winning the fight with trumpets and stuff, and then the villain gets the upper hand and the tubas come in, then the love interest comes up and the string instruments start, and then they make the great escape and it gets all full orchestra with the choir going "oOOH ahhh oohh ahh" to make it more dramatic.  It just seemed really obvious.

I don't know how they spent so much money making this movie.  I guess they built all the sets on the ocean and shot everything from boats and helicopters, which I could see adding up.

Probably wasn't worth it in the end, given the final product.
